After the storms this week I drove up to the local reservoir to look at the water overflowing the dam. This is only about the 2nd time I remember this happening since they raised Littlerock Dam in the early 90's. The north slope of the San Gabriels drains into the desert - a basin. The bottom of this basin is Rogers Dry Lake at Edwards AFB. Except it's not dry anymore - you could probably hold powerboat races out there about now. I heard it's teeming with brine shrimp, too.
I usually take this road to go hiking in the San Gabriels. Compare this to how it looked when it was flooding last Tuesday - a picture from the Daily News.
